Why Niagara Falls should be your top summer vacation destination
If you’ve never been to Niagara Falls, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s just three waterfalls that are beautiful to look at. There’s so much more to this area though, and the diversity of attractions on offer is just as staggering as the location itself. However, if you’re thinking of making a trip there this summer and checking in to a Niagara Falls hotel, there are a few seasonal events you should be aware of – here are the top three…
It’s the best time to visit the wine country
Rolling hillsides and vast vineyards will always be appealing to holidaymakers, but the views are particularly breath-taking around the summer months when the crops are in full bloom. If you book onto one of the main tours leaving from the centre of the tourist district, you’ll get to take in some of the award-winning wine distilleries and breweries in the area.
Not only will you receive expert tuition on the production process, but enjoy a full wine tasting day, enjoying delicious food pairings at the same time – what better way to spend a warm summer evening? There are also regular food and drink events throughout the area, so you’re bound to get caught up in the sights and sounds of festival at Niagara this season.
You can celebrate Canada Day in style
One of the reasons people take a holiday is to get lost in another land, another culture and all the traditions that go with it. If you’re visiting Niagara Falls this summer, you’ll be able to blend in with the natives during their annual Canada Day festivities. The three-day extravaganza held from 30th June to 2nd July will see a whole host of celebrations take place.
Start with the rock concert at the City Hall, where plenty of local bands will be joined by food and drink vendors for a classic summer festival vibe. Then head outside for a tonne of activities, including everything from sing-alongs, raffles, free caricatures and face painting, to henna tattoos – and don’t forget to grab yourself a piece of free birthday cake while you enjoy the live entertainment.
You’ll catch the famous Thunder of Waters
Everyone takes their standard pictures of the Niagara Falls, but how about giving your photography the wow factor by attending a showing of the Onguiaahra: Thunder of Waters Sound and Light Show? This is only held at the end of the summer buzz, from 25th August to 4th September, and is a spectacular and unique way to view the magnificent Horseshoe Falls this season.
Imagine a flurry of coloured lights and perfectly synchronised water jets dancing before you, all to a dramatic music score – not only does it help to tell Niagara’s story, but it will be an unforgettable experience for you and your family.
