Even those who don’t typically travel will usually pack their bags and grab their passport when it comes to their honeymoon. Recently we have been writing about Tonga. I’m a little late actually in writing about this trip… we visited Tonga almost two years ago… for our honeymoon!
Well, to be honest, it was more of a pre-honeymoon as we went a month before our actual wedding day. The reason for this was simple, I was pregnant, and we wanted to travel while I was still in the early stages of pregnancy. Which actually worked out brilliantly, as I ended up having one of the worst most horrific pregnancies in the world…. but anyway….
Tonga was always high on our bucket lists. It first came on my travel radar when I lived with a Tongan family in Auckland for a few weeks. The warmth and friendliness of the Tongan people really struck me, and I felt such a desire to explore their island home. Then in spring 2012 I booked an island hopping trip from Samoa to Fiji to Tonga. All was well until I got to Fiji and a tropical cyclone decided to throw a spanner into my plans… I ended up coming home to Australia instead of heading onwards to Tonga.
Finally we made it. Sun, sand, coconuts, and relaxation – it checked all the honeymoon boxes. Of course, the OurOyster honeymoon had a few more adventure elements thrown in, than probably the standard honeymoon, but it suited us perfectly.
In just a few days we are heading to another very, VERY, popular honeymoon destination – the Maldives! Now the Maldives is one of your stereotypical honeymoon destinations. There are resorts in the Maldives that are even more luxurious than luxurious. There are resorts on the Maldives that own the entire island that they are on. There are resorts on the Maldives with underwater cocktail bars.
Well… as awesome as that all sounds… we are now a traveling family, so we are going to visit the Maldives in a much more, let’s say, realistic way. We are going to explore the Maldives in a way that combines budget, family friendliness, and of course – a bit of adventure.
We were sent this quiz from My Holiday Centre about “what is your dream honeymoon destination?” I did the quiz and the answer I got was Vegas… Vegas? To be honest, this is not the sort of destination I would have picked for myself, but its interesting to see that my answers lent themselves more to the city of sin than any other destination!
So what is your dream honeymoon destination? Let us know in the comments.
