Some holiday deals resorts live up to their tabloid reputations, however the Majorcan town of Magaluf isn’t one of them. Yes, if you’re looking for sun, surf, sand and sangria these can of course be found in abundance on the main strip and beach of Magaluf town itself, but dare to take a wander and you’ll see that the town and its surroundings have a great deal more to offer.
With temperatures from the late 10s in April up to the mid-20s in May, the weather in Majorca is positively balmy. Comparing with the damp and cold we endure here in Britain, and with the island only two and a half hours from the UK with a deal been offered, it’s the perfect to visit during Spring.
If you want a break from the beach and to see some breathtaking scenery, a visit to the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range on the northern stretch of the island is a must, so beautiful it was recently awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO as an area of great physical and cultural significance. Driving through the mountains is an amazing experience, but if you’re more adventurous you might want to hire a bike and cycle to the summit of the Masanella, the second highest peak on the island.
Remember to take your camera to capture the stunning scenery and if you’re lucky you may even spot a rare Black Vulture, which of all European islands is only to be found in Majorca. Spring is the perfect time to visit as the scenery is at its greenest with plants and flowers in full bloom and the sun won’t be so intense as to make your visit uncomfortable.
When you’ve had your fill of the beautiful Majorcan scenery and spent enough time at the beach, you should consider treating the family to an exciting, fun outing, and what could be more fun than a waterpark? Families will love Magaluf’s waterparks. There are two in the area, Aqualand and Western Water Park, both with a multitude of rides and pools, so many that it’s possible to spend a full day at each without getting bored. It’s highly recommended that you go to at least one of them, or both if you have the time.
Magaluf is so much more than a party town, it has an interesting mix of culture and entertainment options for all of the family throughout the year, but give particular thought to a visit in Spring, before the full-on arrival of Summer, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised at what you find here.
