Venice Photo Essay
Venice is one of those iconic European cities from which you are bombarded with so many images, that you probably know your way around already without having been there. It is also one of those cities where you can easily be overwhelmed by the tourist hordes. But unlike some other popular tourist cities (I’m looking at you, Bruges), Venice is still able to retain is character and simple beauty among the chaos of guided tours and city-breakers.
Despite Venice’s popularity, I still found it rather easy to get lost in the narrow winding streets and spend time in parts of the city where not another human soul is to be seen. I will never get over the delight of walking down a quiet street which ends in the dead end of a canal. Brightly coloured houses, shops selling carnival masks, and narrow footbridges over the canals only adds to Venice’s charm.
Here is a selection of some of my favourite photos taken in Venice. Taken with Olympus IR-500.
