There are very few instances in my life when I conscientiously choose to walk up a lot of stairs. Stairs are usually a deal breaker for me. I had to make an exception for the archeological site of Delphi. I just remember learning so much as a child about ancient Greece; their gods, heros, and legends. The legend of the oracle of Delphi always particularly intrigued me, especially since parts of that legend are based on fact.
Legend (and wikipedia) have it that the oracle was usually a middle aged female priestess, who sat near a point in the mountain which emitted noxious fumes until she pretty much got stoned enough to work herself into a sort of frenzied state. Sort of like the state I get into when my internet at home (which is really expensive by the way) stops working for no reason.
So pretty much the oracle sat around all day and got high, while priests who I am sure had no agenda or ulterior motives “interpreted” her ranting.
But anyway, it is still an incredibly beautiful site, and worth the stairs.
