Thinking of travelling to Asia? Not sure where to start. Might I make a suggestion?
I always recommend Malaysia for first time travellers to Asia. It’s Asia through and through. Asian food. Asian culture. Asian weather. And yet Malaysia is a very developed country, meaning that a lot of the aspects of other Asian countries, that first time travellers struggle with are not there. Like the scams…and the touts.
I would always recommend Malaysia as a great place for new travellers in start in Asia. In fact, I wrote a whole post about it : Why Malaysia is Asia 101.
The Complete Guide to Travel in Malaysia
Malaysia is a great place to start your Asian travels. Not only is it an easy place to begin your Asian cultural immersion, but it’s also an easy place to get to. Kuala Lumpur is a main airline transportation hub, making flights to Malaysia relatively affordable and straight forward.

What to do in Malaysia
I have visited Malaysia twice. (Well three times if you can’t that 24 hour long stop over.) The first time was in 2011. I spent two weeks in Malaysia visiting Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and the Perhentian islands. On my second visit, a stop over, we visited the KL Bird Park with Jacob. And on our third visit, we spent two weeks in Borneo.
