What do you think when you think Fiji? Honeymoon? Romantic escape? Beach holiday with the kids? Backpacker party destination? Relaxing luxury?
Fiji can be all of those things.
For me, Fiji means cyclone, but hey, that was just my own bad timing.
For residents of Australia and New Zealand, Fiji is a perfect beach paradise destination. Getting to Fiji is fairly affordable and easy to get to destination. There are a huge range of accommodation options available; from budget backpacker hostels, to luxurious honeymoon resorts.

Getting to Fiji
Getting to Fiji is actually really simple. There are loads of budget flights from Australia and New Zealand, and there are also fairly affordable flights from many other major airports as well. I flew to Fiji from Los Angeles, and then onward to New Zealand, it was actually the cheapest option available.
Moving on from Fiji? Fiji is the hub of the Pacific, so getting to any other Pacific Island is really simple from Fiji.
Where to stay in Fiji
There are heaps of accommodation options available in Fiji, and unlike other Pacific Islands, most of these options are available to book online – even the hostels!
If you are travelling to the islands, then expect to pay a bit more for accommodation.
What to do in Fiji
Fiji is your typical beach destination. So you have your typical beach destination activities; sun bathing, swimming, snorkelling, beach hopping and sailing.
One typical Fijian experience you need to have is a typical kava ceremony. Kava is an extremely popular drink in Fiji, and most hostels and hotels have regular kava ceremonies for their guests.
If you go to a traditional Fijian village, make sure you abide by the local etiquette.
Things to know before you go
There were a lot of things I wanted to do in Fiji that I didn’t get to. And that was because of my epic bad timing. Half way into my Fijian holiday a cyclone hit the island… it wasn’t exactly my best travel experience.
