Travel is about freedom.
Who can argue with that? And for a lot of us, freedom means being behind the wheel of a vehicle. Being able to go wherever the wind blows you, and being able to stop wherever you fancy.
That’s why on our Great Australian Overland Adventure, we knew we couldn’t just travel by train and bus, we also needed to rent a campervan. (Note: This review contains specific information that is relevant to Spaceships Australia, but the general review applies to Spaceships Campervan Rental NZ and Spaceships UK. The links in this article will direct you to Spaceships Australia. However, at the end of the post we will provide links to Spaceships NZ and Spaceships UK as well.)
A campervan provides added freedom. Not only can you go anywhere you want – but you can sleep anywhere you want. With so many campgrounds available for campervans, and with many hostels allowing you to park in their lots and use their facilities for a small fee, a campervan makes a great way save some extra money while travelling.
Spaceships Campervan Review
So have I convinced you about how awesome travel with a campervan is? So why choose Spaceships campervans?
Spaceships Are Easy To Drive
The one thing that Lauren and I always worried about when renting cars in Australia, was whether we could get an automatic. Lauren never learned to drive a manual, and didn’t really want to learn while driving on the other side of the road!
All spaceships have automatic transmission, making them easy for anyone to drive.
Spaceships Are Fuel Efficient
Spaceships are more fuel efficient than many other campervan rentals out there, due to their compact size and the fact that they are well maintained. This is a big help for the budget traveller out there, since petrol costs in Australia are not cheap!
Spaceships Come With Everything You Need
What does your spaceship rental come with?
- Seating for up to four people
- Sleeping space for two people (or three if you want to snuggle!)
- Sleeping space for four people if you get the van with the optional roof space
- A fridge
- A gas cooker with two elements
- Pots and pans and cleaning supplies
- a large supply of drinking water (perfect if you get stranded in the outback)
- free 24 hour road side assistance
- DVD player and several DVD’s which you can trade in at designated swap spots, or with other spaceship renters you meet along the way
- AUX cable so you can listen to your own tunes along the way
- Large amount of locker space for all your luggage
You can also choose to add on items to your rental, such as a tent, child seat booster, or solar shower to name a few!
Spaceships Have Personality
All spaceships have their own unique names printed on the sides. Ours was named “Fanta Pants.” Which was pretty much the best spaceship name we have ever seen. Part of the fun of spotting other Spaceship drivers was to find out what their van was named. Ours always had the best name though.
Spaceships Are Easy to Find In The Parking Lot
Now where did I park my giant bright orange van…. oh wait…. there it is. You will never again lose your car in a parking lot again with a Spaceships campervan.
Spaceships Have Plenty Of Special Offers
It always pays to regularly check the Spaceships website before your trip and see if they have any relocation offers or other special deals on at the time of your travel. When participating in a relocation you can get your rental for as low as $1 per day – now that’s a deal!
Where Can I Rent A Spaceship Campervan?
Currently, there are Spaceship depots in Sydney, Melbourne. Brisbane, Cairns, and Darwin. We rented our first Spaceship in Melbourne and returned it in Sydney. We then picked up Fanta Pants again in Sydney and returned her in Brisbane. The depots in Melbourne and Brisbane offer free pick up and drop off at the closest train station. The one at Sydney did not, but the bus stops right outside the depot.
