The first thing I do when I enter the room is flop down on the large Queen size bed. It’s the biggest bed I have slept in so far on this Australia trip and it is a welcome relief after spending 12 hours on an overnight bus from Adelaide to Melbourne.
So why is a budget traveller checking into a hotel which offers Queen size beds? Well, today I am reviewing one the of the hotel apartments offered by Roomorama in the quirky Melbourne suburb of St. Kilda – the Redan apartments.
The first thing I noticed when I was searching different cities with Roomorama, was the large amount of variety offered by just the one website. I often use various hostel websites when booking online, but these only offer dorms and the occasional private room. Other times, when booking romantic weekends away I use hotel booking sites, but again, the search is limited.
With Roomorama, one of the things I noticed right away was the variety. I found dorms being offered in Cairns, studio hotel apartments in Melbourne, and luxurious apartments being offered in Darwin.
Another new experience was how personal the booking experience was with Roomorama. By booking through them, I was actually put in direct communication with the owners of the hotel, which made it even easier for me to arrange my early morning check in.
Winter has set in in Melbourne, and a window had been left open to give the room some fresh air for my arrival. Upon closing the window, I discovered a small electric heater, which soon began to warm the room.
I only had a couple hours to break out of the bus induced grogginess, and clean myself up for the arrival of my fiance and for the Melbourne art walk tour we would be participating in later that day.
The room was more of a hotel room than an apartment. Although it did have everything that one would need for an extended stay. It had one main room with a queen size bed and an additional twin bed, as well as a desk and a small kitchenette area. The bathroom was attached and consisted of a small tiled room with a shower. Fridge, pots and pans, a cook top, and a sink were all among the amenities provided. Some of the other patrons I met in the hallway were living there while on extended business trips, as it is perfectly suited as a Melbourne short term rental – the studio offering the privacy of your own bathroom and kitchen, while not blowing the budget.
Although we didn’t end up needing these homely appliances during our short weekend stay in Melbourne, especially with some of the great St. Kilda restaurants being right around the corner. We bundled ourselves up against the chilly Melbourne air and made our way to one of the great restaurants and cocktail bars in St. Kilda.
For those looking for a cozy short term hotel rental in St. Kilda, which is close to both tram and train, than I highly recommend Redan apartments. You can find their roomorama details here. And for those wanting something a litte different – then please don’t hesitate to check the full listings on Roomorama. With all the variety available, I am sure you will find just what you are looking for.
