Take a deep breath. Your adrenaline is pumping. Can you do it? Believe in yourself! Warm up your muscles. Are you ready?
To cross the road?
Have you ever felt like something as simple as crossing the street was an extreme sport? Or maybe you feel a little like frogger from the classic 1980’s arcade game? Well maybe you haven’t – but you will if you go to Saigon.
There is a technique to crossing the road, and it doesn’t involve waiting at a pedestrian crossing. Those are few and far between. No, to cross the road in Saigon you need three things; nerves of steel, a steady pace, and a little sense of adventure.
No but seriously, this is how you cross the road in Vietnam.
1) Pick a spot, any spot
2) Walk into traffic
3) Keep a steady pace – not too slow, not too fast
4) The drivers will anticipate your position by your walking speed, and will seamlessly swerve around you like water flowing around a rock.
The only thing to ensure you don’t do is suddenly speed up or slow down, as this will disrupt the flow of traffic around you, and can lead to accidents. Don’t believe me when I talk about how crazy the traffic is in Saigon? Check out our short time lapse video to see for yourself.
