I always love the travel blog memes that go around, and this one has got to be my favourite so far! The 7 super shots game, which was started by HostelBookers encourages bloggers to display seven of their best photographs. What an awesome idea!
I was lucky enough to be nominated by Anthony from the Travel Tart. You should definitely check out his blog for hilarious travel stories and photos. He is currently on a press trip around Samoa as well, so check out his blog for details of that coming soon!
So without further adieu here is my contribution to HostelBookers 7 Super Shots game.
Let me know in the comments which is your favourite photo!
Super Shot 1 – The photo that…took my breath away
This photo took my breath away in more ways than one. The was taken while I was hiking the Tongariro Crossing on New Zealand’s north island. I reached this spectacular viewpoint after climbing up what seemed like hundred of stairs, and after trudging my way along the windiest mountain ridge I have ever experienced. The Tongariro Crossing is a one day hike through a unique volcanic landscape which is famous for it’s appearance in those LOTR films.
Super Shot 2 – The photo that…made me smile/laugh
This bird is an alpine parrot which is only found on New Zealand’s south island. The Kea are well known for being curious, cheeky, and a little bit destructive. They will rip a hikers tent to shreds, steal shoes and hiking boots, and also are quite fond of ripping the rubber off of your windshield wipers. This curious Kea landed on top of our tour bus while we were on a tour of the Milford Sound area with the Stray bus.
Super Shot 3 – A photo that…makes me dream
Road tripping is the best way to see New Zealand. So many different landscapes are packed into such a small country, it’s no wonder that New Zealand is a road trippers dream. One thing I just loved about this country is that you never knew what you would find around the next bend.
Super Shot 4 – A photo that…makes me think
This shot of Cao Dai worshippers in southern Vietnam always makes me think about religion and it’s impact on society and how it influences the way we perceive the world around us. Sometimes I wonder how my travel experiences would be filtered through my consciousness differently if I had been raised with religion.
Super Shot 5 – A photo that…makes my mouth water
One of my favourite ways to learn about a culture is through it’s food. And there is nothing I love more than taking a cooking class in each of my destinations. When I was in Malaysia, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Lazat Cooking School just outside Kuala Lumpur where I learned how to make all sorts of delicious goodies.
Super Shot 6 – A photo that…tells a story
This head from a Buddha statue has been long separated from it’s body in a park of temple ruins in Ayutthaya Thailand. The tree has grown in such a way, that it now appears to cradle the head. The calm and serene expression on the Buddha’s face makes me believe that it may be possible for human culture and civilization to live in peace with nature.
Super Shot 7 – A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)
This is one of James’ photos from his time volunteering in Zimbabwe. I just love how the two giraffes have almost the exact same pose, and are holding their necks at the same angle. Plus, the giraffe is my favourite animal!
And now for the awesome bloggers that I would like to nominate!
1. Choose 7 of your own photos, one for each of the following categories I listed above.
