We love this bag. And we are not sponsored by Kata… this is actually the bag we use and love.
Now we travel with a fair amount of camera gear. We have got our five lenses, our DSLR body, a portable microphone, and a tripod. It can be a lot to fit into a standard camera bag. We also travel with a 13 inch Macbook Pro and all the associated chargers and cords required for all that gear. We wanted a bag that could fit it all.
We ended up going for the Kata 33 DL – mostly because it was one of the few bags on the market that had a dedicated lap top compartment as well as the capacity for all our gear… but that isn’t the only highlight to this bag.
It holds A LOT of stuff
We travel with a laptop, five lenses, DSLR, and microphone and sometimes I feel like the camera bag is still almost empty. According to their website, you can fit up to seven lenses, camera body, computer and flash along with other bits and bobs. Yet despite all that carrying capacity it is still fairly compact and we had no issues at all taking it as a carry on, even on picky airlines like Ryan Air.
You can wear it in several different ways
The straps are totally adjustable which means you can use it as either a left or right hand sling bag, a traditional back back, or in an X strap style. We normally just use it as a normal backpack though, although I think the X strap style might make it even easier to carry over long distances.
The main part of the bag body features a modular compartment with adjustable dividers so you can customize it to fit your gear perfectly. Also the easy access top compartment is a great place to put your camera body and main lens when you are on the go and want quick access to your camera. The laptop pocket in the back is perfect and I feel like my computer doesn’t even take up any additional space in the bag.
Also the two extra small zipped compartments on the side were perfect for stowing currency we no longer needed, or small items like memory cards.
The front of the bag has two areas where you can attach straps to carry a small tripod or similar….. a pretty awesome feature which we didn’t see on many other bags. Also, many bags would have the tripod compartment on one of the sides, which I think is silly because wouldn’t it off balance the bag and hurt your back after a while?
Its attachable to your rolling luggage for airport ease
Last but not least, the bag even has an elastic strap at the back which you can slip your luggage handle through for easy transportation on the go.
We love this bag… it suits all our requirements. However if you don’t need a bag this large, they do offer the same bag in four different sizes. We simply chose to buy the largest one.
