We have been doing a lot of reflection and future planning recently at OurOyster.com. Recently we have reflected on our 2014 goals, and written about the best of and the worst of our travel in the last year. Today we want to take a more visual approach (since it’s New Years day and we are probably all hung over). Today is all about our 20 favourite photos from 2014.
The above two photos are from Ohrid in Macedonia. You might remember Ohrid from my best of post for being the place where we had our BEST meal in 2014. Ohrid is full of beautiful old churches and monasteries. The town is rather small and easy to walk around to discover the hidden nooks and crannies.
This is the stunning Shipka Church in Bulgaria. We spent a couple weeks road tripping around Bulgaria. This church is not too far away from the lively town of Plovdiv and is a highly recommended stop.
This is the Roman amphitheatre located in the old town of Plovdiv. You can read more about the art and architecture in the old town here.
The above two photos are from our recent trip to Java Indonesia in November of 2014. On our first day in Java we visited the famous UNESCO Buddhist site of Borobudor where these photos were taken. We highly, highly recommend the sunrise tour, otherwise you might end up having a bad travel experience like I did.
This past year we have done quite a bit of work with Choice Hotels in Australia, to promote family road trips around Australia. We went on three road trips with them. The above two shots are from our Murray River Road Trip in Victoria Australia.
The first road trip we did with Choice Hotels was through Gippsland Australia. This was our favourite road trip and you can read about it here.
Holy moly, we couldn’t just chose one or two photos from our trip to Halong Bay in Vietnam. It was just too beautiful! You can see more of Dan’s Halong Bay photos here.
This photo was taken in Hue Vietnam. What makes this photo special is that it used to have tons of people milling about in it. We used a technique called photo stacking which removes all traces of other people from your photos. It’s pretty amazing and this one was our first attempt.
This year is the second year I have attended the Problogger conference on the Gold Coast. This year I was selected to go on a famil to the Sapphire fields of central Queensland. This sapphire was found in an $8 bucket of gravel… too bad it just wasn’t MY $8 bucket of gravel!
Our first major trip after returning from our 5 months round the world trip in January 2014 was to the Maldives in July. We spent two weeks in the Maldives boating, fishing, tanning and playing in the sand.
We used to live in Brisbane Australia, but this year have relocated to Melbourne. This shot is from the Brisbane lookout of Mt Coot-tha.
One of our favourite holiday spots near Brisbane is Ballina. This shot was taken during our weekend stay with the Lakeside Ballina Holiday Park.
