I’ve got a big goal. I want to visit 50 countries before I turn 30. Right now I am at a grand total of 46. I have a year and half to visit 4 more new countries.
Now that wouldn’t be too hard if we were based in Europe, but we’re not. We are based in Australia. Getting to another country involves an air journey, and a rather long one at minimum. Also, I have a regular job in addition to this blog. So I need to juggle new travel experiences, with annual leave time, flight sales and budget constraints.
But we have a plan.
We are planning three overseas trips in 2015, and of course, we won’t stop exploring Australia in between.
Goal 1: Country 47: Brunei
In February we are having a last hurrah trip of cheap infant flight tickets before Jacob turns two years old and we have to start paying full (or almost full) fare for him. We will be spending two weeks in Malaysian Borneo. We have been to Malaysia before, but not to Borneo. We can’t wait for all the amazing eco-tourism experiences that await, and of course, the always incredible Malaysian cuisine. And when in Borneo it isn’t too much of a mission to make a quick stop in Brunei, which for me, will be country number 47.
Goal 2: Our first cruise and country number 48: Vanuatu
For my Mother in Laws 50th she decided she wanted to have her celebrations on a cruise. I’ve always liked the idea of a cruise, especially after having my little one, but I have been hesitant to take the plunge. I get terrible sea sickness after all. But I’m hoping that a cruise ship will be large enough that the movements of the sea will not affect me too much.
We will be on a 10 day Pacific Island cruise through New Caledonia and Vanuatu. We have been to New Caledonia already, but we haven’t had a change to visit the Loyalty Islands, so that will be a new experience, but not a new country. However we will make a stop in Vanuatu which will be a first for all of us.
Vanuatu has been on my Bucket List for a while now, so this cruise will only whet my appetite. We will definitely be planning a return trip to this Pacific Nation in the future.
Goal 3: My first TBEX
I have bought tickets to TBEX before. I had planned to attend the TBEX in Toronto in 2013. But life got in the way and a week before we were supposed to be flying to Canada, Dan went into the operation room to have a tumour removed from his spine. It took him 5 months to recover, but as soon as we was we were off travelling again.
Normally TBEX has been held just too far away from Australia for me to attend. But this year will be the first year it will be held at an Asian location. In October we will be attending TBEX Thailand. It won’t be a new country for me, but it will a new and exciting experience, and will hopefully help take this blog to an even higher level.
What are your 2015 travel goals?
