When I first came to New Zealand I spent a night at a Buddhist Retreat. My friend Dan and I came across it when we were looking for a cheap place to camp. It was the cheapest and we figured that while we were there we may as well get into the spirit of things and get involved in the meditation. Needless to say I did not really fit in well and our original plan to stay 3 nights was whittled down to one. The best part of my whole experience with the buddhists was waking up, having slept under the stars, in this meadow. It seemed so peaceful and still. And I like to think that, whilst I did not really get the whole new age type of meditation that they were so into, I still managed a little bit of it on my own terms.
