The pelicans have no fear. Every evening near dusk a local man on Kangaroo island performs his pelican show. He doesn’t charge admission, but he does ask for donations so that he can buy more fish.
The pelicans know what time to show up, and when he gets out his bucket of fish they all start to crowd around. It’s like a black Friday crowd waiting for the Apple store to open. A few cheeky seagulls crowd around as well for a chance at a meal slightly easier than stealing beach goers sandwiches.
As he throws the fish into the air it is a free for all and pelicans crash around to get the tastiest morsels. Those sitting in the front row might get a little closer acquainted with the pelicans than they were anticipating.
I love how close up I was able to get to the pelicans for this shot. Just look at the detail in the features and bill.
