The Great Ocean Road, besides being one of the most iconic road trips in the world, is also one of the best places to see koalas in their natural habitat. During certain sections of the road all you have to do is look up to see 10 or 20 fat bums in the trees.
This guy was one of the fatter examples we came across, and is also one of my favourites.
Photographing koalas on the Great Ocean Road is super easy. Many sit on low hanging branches, and since they are so slow moving and tired during the day, it isn’t difficult to get into a good position to photograph them. A telephoto can be useful for koalas sitting a little higher in the trees.
