Cyprus wasn’t originally in the plan for our trip to Europe two years ago, but when it turned out that we needed to fly via this small nation to get from Belgium to Crete, well we decided to seize the opportunity. We spent a week in Cyprus driving around the country side in a rental car and seeing as much as the country as possible.
Below are some of our favourite photos…. and it was hard to narrow it down to just 25.
Unbelievably Beautiful Churches
Located in the mountainous region of central Cyprus, are 10 UNESCO listed Byzantine churches. These churches are beautiful examples of Byzantine architecture and are covered with incredibly murals and paintings.
Many of the churches that we visited were closed, and we were not able to track down the caretaker. But there were one or two that we were able to get inside, and boy, we were just blown away. But I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
Magical and Mysterious Archaeological Sites
Cyprus has some of the best archaeological sites in Europe. We visited three of the main archaeological sites in the country, The Tomb of Kings and Paphos Archaeological site in Paphos, and the Archaeological site of Kourion.
Cute Little Towns Located on Windy Mountainous Roads
It took us three days to visit the 10 UNESCO churches of Troodos because we just couldn’t stop making pit stops at some of the random and beautiful little towns along the way.
